Invitation to Join: Imaging Saves Lives – The Role of Imaging in Cardiovascular Health

The European Society of Radiology (ESR), in collaboration with the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), is co-organising the event ‘Imaging Saves Lives: The Role of Imaging in Improving Cardiovascular Health’ on Thursday, 2 July from 10:30 to 12:30.

The event will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels and will also be available online, enabling broad participation from across Europe.

Hosted by Member of the European Parliament Romana Jerković, Vice-President of the Parliament’s Committee on Public Health and rapporteur for the Parliament’s report on the EU’s Safe Hearts Plan, the event will bring together policymakers, healthcare professionals, patient representatives, and other key stakeholders. Participants will discuss how medical imaging can play a central role in strengthening cardiovascular prevention, improving diagnosis, and enhancing treatment pathways across Europe.

Join us to explore how innovation in medical imaging can help advance cardiovascular health outcomes and support more effective, patient-centred care across the EU.

Kindly note that onsite places are limited and primarily reserved for policymakers and stakeholder representatives of European organisations.

The EU Safe Hearts Plan: A new framework for cardiovascular health

On 16 December 2025, as part of the EU Health Package, the European Commission published its Communication on an EU Cardiovascular Health Plan, known as the Safe Hearts Plan.

The Safe Hearts Plan establishes a comprehensive policy framework structured around three strategic pillars aimed at reducing cardiovascular risk factors, strengthening early detection through coordinated EU-wide screening and health check protocols, and improving standards of care through enhanced clinical guidelines and the development of a European network of cardiovascular centres. These actions are supported by cross-cutting priorities, including digital innovation, the responsible integration of artificial intelligence, reinforced research and data capacities, and a strong commitment to addressing health inequalities across the EU.

Additional background information on the Safe Hearts Plan and the crucial role of medical imaging in cardiovascular care, can be found here.
