How Lung Cancer Screening Can Save Lives – Public-facing videos from the SOLACE Project

Many people with lung cancer feel completely well before diagnosis. By the time symptoms appear, the disease is often already advanced.

That’s why lung cancer screening is so important. A quick and painless low-dose CT scan can spot cancer at an early stage when it is easier to treat and outcomes are better.

The European SOLACE project, a collaborative effort of experts from the ESR and the European Respiratory Society (ERS) helped to make this kind of screening available to more people across Europe and aimed to ensure that those most at risk, such as current or former smokers, can benefit from early detection. Its objectives were:

• To facilitate and support the implementation of structured low-dose CT lung cancer screening programmes in Europe.

• To improve the quality of lung cancer screening across Europe.

• To bring together, for the first time, all key stakeholders needed to design, plan and implement LCS in member states on a sustainable basis.
