The European Society of Radiology mourns the passing of Professor Plinio Rossi, a pioneer of interventional radiology in Italy and a highly respected figure in the international radiological community.
Throughout his distinguished career, Professor Rossi dedicated himself to advancing radiology through education, research, and innovation, shaping the development of interventional practice and inspiring generations of radiologists. He also served as President of the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR) from 1994 to 1997. His close association with the ESR was recognised when he delivered the ECR Honorary Lecture and was awarded the ECR Gold Medal in 1999.
He was also a founder of the European Society of Vascular Radiology, which later evolved into the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE).
The ESR extends its sincere condolences to Professor Rossi’s family, colleagues, and students, and honours with gratitude his lasting contributions to our field.
