The European Society of Radiology (ESR) has donated one of its most delicate and symbolic statues from ECR 2025 – the Kolibri (Hummingbird) – to its long-time partner Canon. The statue now has a permanent home with Canon at their Canon Medical Academy in Amstelveen, Netherlands, serving as a lasting tribute to the organisation’s commitment to innovation, imaging excellence, and global collaboration in radiology.

Unveiled during the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2025, the Kolibri was part of the congress’s imaginative ‘Planet Radiology’ theme. This artistic concept transformed the venue into a surreal, anatomical landscape where fauna and human structures intertwined. The hummingbird’s headpiece echoes the smooth contours of the kidneys, a subtle yet powerful representation of the harmony between biological form and imaging function.
“I am delighted with the donation of the hummingbird sculpture that we unveiled yesterday. Likewise, at ECR, it attracts a lot of interest and welcomes visitors to our Canon Medical Academy. We are proud that it shows our strong partnership and the invaluable support that ESR provides us with,” said René Degros, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Canon Medical Systems Europe.

“The Kolibri embodies the spirit of Planet Radiology. It is lightweight yet powerful, intricate yet purposeful,” said Prof. Andrea Rockall, Chair of the ESR Board of Directors and ECR 2025 Congress President. “Canon has long stood for imaging excellence and technological advancement, and we are proud to mark our shared journey with this symbol of precision and partnership.”
This gesture reflects a deep and evolving relationship between ESR and Canon – one founded on shared goals, mutual respect, and a vision for imaging that supports both clinicians and patients worldwide. As the Kolibri finds its place within Canon’s global ecosystem, it carries with it the values and creative ambition that defined ECR 2025.
