ECR 2027 President’s Foreword

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Medicine is changing at an unprecedented pace. Advances in technology, evolving patient expectations, increasing demands on healthcare systems, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence are reshaping the way care is delivered. In this changing landscape, radiology is no longer simply interpreting images – it is helping to redefine how healthcare itself is practised.

This vision lies at the heart of ECR 2027 and our theme, Healthcare Reimagined.

Radiology has always enabled clinicians to see beyond what is immediately visible. Today, however, its role extends far beyond diagnosis. Imaging is central to clinical decision-making, guiding therapy, monitoring treatment, enabling precision medicine, and supporting multidisciplinary care throughout the patient journey.

Throughout ECR 2027, we will examine how this transformation is redefining the radiologist’s role – not simply as an expert in image interpretation, but as a key partner in delivering more personalised, efficient, and sustainable healthcare. Artificial intelligence will be an integral part of these discussions, exploring how it can strengthen clinical expertise, enhance workflows, and unlock new opportunities to improve patient care.

Our scientific programme has been designed with today’s radiology community firmly in mind, tailored specifically to its growing needs. Alongside our established educational formats, ECR 2027 introduces new opportunities for practical and collaborative learning, including case-based learning workshops, a novel In Focus programme and an expansion of our advanced course offerings.

Above all, ECR 2027 will provide a platform to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions, and shape the future direction of our profession. Whether through scientific discovery, technological innovation, education, or collaboration, every participant will contribute to reimagining what healthcare can become.
