Vienna, Austria, April 17, 2026 – In line with its educational mission and in support of the implementation of the European Commission’s Safe Hearts Plan, the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and the European School of Radiology (ESOR) are delivering a highly popular free of charge Special Focus Series course on Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (MR), attracting more than 3,700 registrants so far. The course will take place over two half-days on April 20-21 on ESR Connect and is accredited with 10 CME credits.
“Cardiac MR for Every Radiologist” will deliver a structured introduction to cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, covering core principles, practical techniques, and real-world clinical workflows. Through focused lectures and interactive sessions, participants will gain insight into common indications, interpretation strategies, and potential pitfalls, equipping them with the confidence to apply Cardiac MR in everyday practice.
The strong registration numbers for the course are a powerful indication of the growing importance of advanced imaging in tackling cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in Europe. Cardiac MR along with other imaging techniques are essential for early detection, risk stratification, and guiding personalised treatment.
The course, as well as other initiatives organised by the ESR, highlight how the society is strengthening expertise in cardiovascular imaging and supporting the shift towards prevention-focused care, the key pillar of the EU Safe Hearts Plan.
The educational efforts form part of ESR’s strategy to strengthen the recognition of the role of imaging and its integration into cardiovascular strategies across Europe.
“Education is central to improving patient outcomes and at the heart of ESR’s mission,” said Prof. Minerva Becker, Chair of the ESR Board of Directors. “Radiology has a lot to bring to the table to improve cardiovascular health in Europe: Imaging detects cardiovascular disease at its earliest, most treatable stages and is key in prevention and screening strategies, for precision diagnosis, risk stratification as well as for treatment selection and prognosis prediction.”
